BTR Camshaft VE Commodore

BTR Camshafts — VE Commodore

Brian Tooley Racing camshafts for Gen III/IV LS engines. IMS is Australia's largest BTR stockist — 90 cams in stock every fortnight.

VE Commodore Engine Variants

The VE Commodore ran three LS engine variants depending on model and year. Each has its own fitment requirements for camshaft upgrades:

EngineModelsNotes
L98 6.0LSS, SS V (early)Active Fuel Management (AFM/DOD). Cam upgrades typically delete AFM — requires tune.
L76 6.0LOmega, InternationalNon-AFM variant. More straightforward cam swap.
LS3 6.2LSS V (late), Calais V, SV6 (not applicable)Higher factory compression. Different valve spring requirements to L98/L76.

BTR Range for VE LS Engines

BTR produces a full range of hydraulic roller camshafts that fit Gen III/IV LS engines used in the VE platform. The range spans from mild street profiles through to aggressive naturally-aspirated, PDS (cam-on-throttle boost), and turbo applications.

Which cam suits your build depends on how the car is used, what tune it has, what supporting modifications are in place, and what the compression ratio is. There is no universal answer — the same cam in two different builds will produce different results.

IMS stocks the complete BTR range including cam kits (camshaft, valve springs, pushrods, and rockers as a matched set). View the full range: BTR LS Camshafts | BTR Cam Kits

AFM/DOD — What You Need to Know

L98-equipped VE Commodores run Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation). A cam upgrade on an AFM engine requires AFM deletion as part of the process — new cam, AFM delete kit, and a tune that accounts for the change. Running an aftermarket cam with AFM active causes misfires and damage. IMS handles this as a complete package, not just a parts swap.

PDS (Cam-On-Throttle) Builds

VE SS wagons, utes, and some SS V models run PDS (Positive Displacement Supercharger) from factory or as a modification. BTR produces a dedicated PDS cam range designed around forced induction on LS engines. This is a separate product line to the naturally-aspirated range — the correct cam depends on boost level, pulley size, and supporting mods.

Spec It With IMS — Not a Parts Catalogue

The right BTR cam for your VE Commodore depends on the full build spec. Call us, tell us how the car is built and how it gets driven, and we will tell you what cam fits. We have fitted these on the dyno — we know what works.
