BTR Camshaft LS Swap
BTR Camshafts — LS Swap Builds
Brian Tooley Racing camshafts for AU LS swap platforms. IMS is Australia's largest BTR stockist and has fitted these engines locally.
Common AU LS Swap Platforms
The LS engine swap is one of the most common performance builds in Australia. VE donor engines are readily available from wreckers, and the LS package is well supported by the aftermarket. Common AU platforms:
| Platform | Common Donor Engine | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ford BA / BF Falcon | L98, LS2, LS3 | Most common AU LS swap. Strong aftermarket support. |
| Ford FG / FGX Falcon | LS2, LS3 | More room in bay vs BA/BF. Increasingly common. |
| Holden VL Commodore | LS1, LS2 | Classic platform, often built for strip or circuit. |
| Holden VK / VB-VH | LS1, LS2 | Bracket and street builds. Weight advantage. |
| 4x4 platforms (Hilux, Patrol, etc.) | LS1, LS2, LS3 | Less common but growing. Standalone ECU standard. |
BTR Range for LS Swap Applications
BTR produces camshafts for all common Gen III/IV LS engine variants used in swap applications — LS1, LS2, L98, LS3. The full naturally-aspirated range is available, as well as forced induction profiles for turbocharged swap builds.
IMS stocks the complete BTR range including matched cam kits. A cam kit (camshaft, valve springs, pushrods, rockers) is generally the right approach for a swap build — it removes the guesswork on spring selection for the specific cam profile. View the range: BTR LS Camshafts | BTR Cam Kits
Swap-Specific Considerations
A cam swap in an LS-swapped chassis is a different conversation to a cam swap in a VE Commodore. The ECU environment, tune, exhaust, and intended use all affect what profile works. Standalone ECU setups (Haltech, Link, MoTeC) give the most tuning flexibility but also mean the cam choice needs to suit what the tuner can work with.
Idle character also matters differently in a swap — a non-LSx chassis with a lumpy cam can be harder to live with daily than the same cam in a VE. How the car gets used matters as much as what the engine is.
IMS has fitted BTR cams on LS swap builds locally. We know the variables. Call us before ordering if the build has any complexity to it.
AFM/DOD on Swap Engines
L98 engines pulled from VE Commodores retain AFM (Active Fuel Management). If you are using an L98 donor engine in a swap and fitting an aftermarket cam, AFM deletion is part of the job. Running a performance cam with AFM active causes issues — it needs to be addressed in the tune. IMS can advise on the full process.
IMS Has Done the Swap — Not Just Sold the Parts
LS swap cam selection depends on the engine variant, the chassis, the ECU, the tune, and how the car gets used. There is no one-size answer. Tell us the full build spec and we will point you to the right cam.
